Hymns can still speak to us

Today I was working on my computer but at the same time listening to some old familiar hymns.

As someone who has come from a more traditional church and then into the charismatic, we can tend to just leave those ancient hymnals behind. We think them old, out of touch, too slow, too religious.

But I will encourage you to listen to them again. The words are strong. They instill something in your heart.

For instance… Abide with Me by William Henry Monk.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness
Where is death's sting?
Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me

Or, this…

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
To his feet your tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Evermore his praises sing.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King!

Maybe the music is not quite your thing, but I dare you to have a go. Sit with the lyrics. Sit with the deep contemplative music and abide with Him!
